I love theme parties, decor and also blog posts.
But, you knew that, right?
There are two types of people, in my limited and personal viewpoint, those that cling to conspiracy theories and those that don’t.
Let’s face it, people, there are reasons that the first group persist with this belief–well, it’s a non-belief, really. How many institutions have been whispered about, only to find out it was true all along? How many jokes about groups have been shown to be truths? I’ll answer with a couple that come to mind–school teacher flirtations turning out to be exploitation of minors, altar boys and priests, polling data manipulation, climate change predictions, Covid-19. It is no wonder that the CT (conspiracy theorists, not the great CT from The Challenge) people find the loose yarn and proclaim the sweater to be unwearable.
Then there are those that take facts, analyze them, and come to a conclusion. Maybe they believe that there are bad actors in every realm of society, but to malign an entire group by those bad actors is not how data is utilized. Maybe they are too trusting. Maybe they didn’t grow that skepticism gland that the CT (again, not CT the greatest dad bod ever to grace a screen. Conspiracy theorists) seem to possess.
Is it any wonder that these groups cannot agree on any issue? We have tailor made news channels, social media feeds, and narratives that are utilized by politicians to fund campaigns. As soon as an issue becomes politicized, the camps form and we fall in line, just like they want.
Lindsay Clancy’s trial for the murder of her three children, Cora, Dawson and Callan, has illustrated these groups. The CT’s (I shouldn’t have to do this, but although CT is from Massachusetts, the state that the trial is taking place, these people are all over the nation) have said she killed her kids because she didn’t want to be a mother, she wanted to stay home with her kids, she’s faking mental illness, her husband, Patrick did it, etc. It goes on and on.
Watching the trial, I now want to join the CT’s (yes, I have an obsession with CT the pugilist of The Real World Paris, the trash talker, the lover of Diem) with my very own conspiracy theory. I am using data, facts, and my own observations that are the yarn in the useless sweater, people.
There is no way the attorneys representing the commonwealth of Massachusetts are not throwing this trial. Oh, you can confuse yourself with their vitriol towards defense witnesses and questions surrounding Lindsay’s behavior on dates, but make no mistake, these two women are utilizing despicable behavior to repulse the jury.
Today’s witness was a woman that most people, including the CT’s, (I won’t do it this time. I have paid homage to the best CT there is already) would have to agree is a stellar human.
Sheila Cavanaugh works as a chaplain at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. That fact, by itself, should be enough for me, but I already outlined the various institutions and their failings, so fair game. She worked in finance but gave that up to give others spiritual guidance. Wow, this woman has to have something wrong. She sacrificed income? So far, I am doing this CT thing so well, if I don’t say so myself. She adopted four children from a foreign country. Obviously, she is showing herself here. But, for those people that can’t align in the CT world,(what if there was a world just for CT the inspirational, at times, Challenge hero?) she probably sounds like a good and well-meaning person, who probably can be trusted.
Wait, I am almost reversing my argument regarding the DA’s behavior towards witnesses. Once you go down the CT rabbit hole, it’s hard to get out.
The point is, she is someone that should probably get a soft questioning when cross-exam begins.
But, my CT mind is abuzz by what just happened as well as the cross of Lindsay’s mother-in-law, and behavior towards her attorney, Kevin Reddington. If you don’t know, Lindsay’s mil was asked if she was a practicing Catholic and if she knew that murder is a mortal sin. Let that sink in. The two women repeatedly make comments to each other, in the jury’s view, about Reddington. The hostility, and lack of compassion towards those directly affected by the murder of the Clancy children, began my induction into the CT club. (is there a CT fan club? If so, hook me up. Long time fangirl!)
Today, I couldn’t unsee it. They are so obviously trying to manipulate the jury into a foaming frenzy of hatred towards them in order to have a not guilty verdict, thus ushering in the change in the mental health system they secretly desire.
Okay, maybe that was a leap, regarding the ushering of change, but come on. How else do you describe what has happened? Passion, I get. This is not that. This seems systematic and planned. From the insistence that Lindsay half-heartedly attempted to end her own life, denying the hesitation wounds on her wrists and neck, and the conjecture that she didn’t jump, she slid, out of the second story window, to the cross exam with disdain of each defense witness, it’s all there, people. They want to free Lindsay and become feminist icons.
Which leads me to this CT, you can view this trial and see how a mentally ill woman was failed at every level. I won’t even get into my personal thoughts on her husband and how uninvolved he seemed to be, despite his wife suffering and home with his children. I won’t get into the fear every woman has regarding the possibility of postpartum issues. I don’t want to make this a man vs woman issue, but I for those men who are, shame on you. Women who are speaking out on this issue are not advocating annihilation of offspring. Women, who have lived this, are feeling the fear of this happening to them, their daughters, their friends. How this CT, that women are supporting infanticide, is gaining momentum, is baffling.
Maybe, I will go back to facts and data.
Maybe, I will hope the two attorneys are really not deliberately alienating the jury and just bad attorneys.
Maybe, I hope this case leads to change. Available mental health care. Research that leads to less adverse effects in medication for mental health. Interventions during pregnancy. Stigmas regarding self-reporting of symptoms lessening. Less divide among people.
Oh well…
